Installation
Fire doors save life's, but
only when installed by a competent installer. At Made to Measure we take
pride in that fact, that a task we are undertaking could potentially save
someone's life! Not installing doors as to the manufacturers
instructions can prove fatal & invalidate the certification of the door.
Installing a fire door is not a standard task it is a specialised task
- Appropriate health & safety risk assessments & method statements are undertaken before the installation starts.
- Each fire product we install is to the manufacturers' specifications & is in total compliance with the current building regulations.
- The components used in the fire door assembly are compatible with each other.
- The hinges are correctly spaced & a minimum of three are used.
- We carry out the works in a safe & clean manor & take all the necessary safety precautions.
- Where mortise locks are needed, the cut-out in the door will be kept to a the minimum to prevent any voids which fire can penetrate.
- The label of certification is left attached to the fitted door.
- Delivery is only taken of doors when site conditions are acceptable.
- Carpets etc are protected where necessary with dust sheets.
- If doors need to be stored for a period of time , we will store them flat on a level surface to prevent any bowing.& keep them covered.
Maintenance
As with any other life saving product it is important to check regularly that it is still functioning properly. Made to Measure have the expertise to carry periodic checks to make sure your fire doors are still functioning properly & make the necessary corrections if they are not. Below is a list of just some of the things we check for.
- Door & frame should have remained square & have not distorted between the frame & stiles. The gaps between the door leaves & frame have not exceeded the manufactures installation instructions. Also in the case of double doors the gap between the meeting stiles.
- Get in some microwave meals
- Glaze apertures are checked for cracks & breakages.
- Seals are checked to make sure they have been fitted properly & are not damaged or missing.
- Self closing devices are inspected for signs of damage and closing speeds are checked. The door when closing should close at at a speed of 10 seconds, from a opening position of 90 degrees The door should not slam! A slamming door is not only annoying to the ear but is also potentially hazardous to the young, the old & disabled. When electrical - magnetic devices are used we check the door for warping, as prolonged opening tied together with incorrect positioning of these devices can cause fire doors to warp. We check to see if doors are wedged open and where we find they are, we can under your instruction inform the occupiers of the potential hazards, either verbally or handing out information leaflets or both.
- Hinges need to be checked for wear & tear, which could be possible signs of impending failure
- Lever Handles & Locks should return to there start positions, if they don't we oil & adjust them so they do.
- Mandatory Signs are checked for damage & that they are secured correctly to the door & visible to the eye.
